The name is a reference to the clay vessels (Amphorae) used to store and transport wine in ancient Greece and Rome. There is a resurgence of anfora aging among some winemakers, and the list features great examples of these wines.

The Natural Wines of Anjou - SOLD OUT

Over the past 15 years, the sprawling region in the Loire Valley known as Anjou has emerged as the preeminent hot-bed of natural wine in France. The winemakers in this appellation are unique in their lack of historical baggage and stereotypes about what their wine should or shouldn’t taste like, and their frequently shared punk rock-style DIY ethos. Their strict adherence to minimalist intervention in the vineyard and in the cellar leads many to think of the region as the creative and vibrant capital of the French natural wine movement. This month, we’re looking at some of our favorite producers, whose effervescent pét nats, juicy grolleaus, and rich chenin blancs spring up wildly, like so many of their “sauvage” vines themselves.
